Welcome to the Future..

I can remember watching the Jetson’s as a little girl and using the show as a clue into what the future may hold.  I always wanted the machine that would get you ready for the day.  Think about it.  How fabulous would it be to wakeup and have a machine to bathe you, brush your teeth and hair, coordinate outfits, and that dresses you.  Unfortunately this machine still isn’t invented in 2013; but, we also don’t all have flying cars… well not yet. I also dreamed of an electronic sassy maid, like the Jetson’s had.  Still, I would be interested in both of these inventions if they ever were recreated successfully. Although the changes in technology are extreme compared to when I was a child, they are not as far fetched as the Jetson’s. I generally imagined the future the way the movies, Internet, and TV shows depicted it.  I had a collaborative idea of the future from these off the wall futuristic movies.  With the advances in technology everything has changed.  Everything from dating, shopping, researching, producing art, and staying in touch with friends; it all has all changed.  We don’t do any of these activities the same anymore.  Social rules have been altered because of technology, the way we learn has changed, and our access to information has expanded tremendously due to technology.  I wouldn’t have believed you if you told me as a child that by the time I entered college there would be no real need for textbooks.  You can just buy an IPAD and download eBooks.  Paper is becoming less used every day.  But with all of this technology we tend to forget the beauty in doing things the old fashioned way.  I believe there is more pleasure in blowing out a candle versus flipping a switch.  I find happiness in the feeling of flipping the page instead of a swipe of a finger.  Taking the time to write a letter rather than sending a text. There is magnificence in all of these things.  Will our children’s children even know this feeling?  I think the child Kat would be disappointed in the future honestly.  We are destroying our planet, fighting each other instead of uniting, and letting things like greed control our lives.  I am sure little Kat would love to see all of the technological advances but that doesn’t bring happiness to you.  Having a lot of experience with digital media and a user of social media sites I have to say it is like a bad addiction. Everyone puts way too much personal information on the Internet, including me, and it can come back to bite you.  My generation has been social networking since I was a preteen… maybe even earlier.  This leaves a lot of leeway for writing something stupid on a blog or social media network.  I’m sure 35 year old professional working Kat will not be pleased when an employer brings up a post from 10 years ago on Facebook that is not “socially acceptable.”   I feel like my generation is under a microscope that we all chose to put ourselves under.  It can be overwhelming at times.  This is my first blog ever… and its finished!
