Movie Poster Design


Documentary Movie Poster

  • Proximity- The Movie title begins at the top and finishes in the middle to place emphasizes on the word mind.
  • Alignment-Right alignment of the image of the brain, center alignment of the title & release dates.
  • Repetition- Blues, Yellows, and grays.  Repetition of font.
  • Contrast- The bright yellow square box that divides the poster with the word mind in the center.
  • Visual Signifiers- the x-ray of the brain placed on the right side implies the title.
  • Audience- PG, (mostly scholars or people who have interest in learning more about themselves).
  • Logos- the colors used and the almost “basic” design concept imply that the movie is an informative documentary.
  • Ethos- Daniel Pink
  • Pathos- it makes the observer interested in learning the subject; curiosity

Mystery Movie Poster

  • Proximity- There is an equal proximity between the picture of Johnny depp and tim burtons name
  • Alignment-left alignment of Johnny depp, tim burton text was aligned parallel on the right, the rest of the poster had a center alignment (including the text)
  • Repetition- dark eerie colors, purples blacks blues
  • Contrast- the pastel font against the dark background. And the warm colored picture of Johnny depp.
  • Visual Signifiers- tim burtons name, Johnny Depp’s face.
  • Audience- PG 13 and +
  • Logos- the eerie image of the world and the intense look in his eye implies that the movie may be mysterious. 
  • Ethos- Johnny Depp, Tim Burton
  • Pathos- If you have an emotional connection with mysteries or are a big fan of Tim Burton you may feel obligated to see this movie creating guilt in the user.

Action Movie Poster Design

  • Proximity- The Proximity of the Title to the Premiere date makes it easy to read and comprehend the mood of the movie. 
  • Alignment-scattered center alignment of the title. This follows the “tunnel Vision” shot of the picture’s negative space.
  • Repetition- the color scheme
  • Contrast- The Hot Pink premiere date of the Movie against the black and white image.
  • Visual Signifiers- NYC
  • Audience- PG 13 and +
  • Logos- the “tunnel Vision” shot of NYC implies that the movie may be exciting and have action scenes.  
  • Ethos- NYC, Daniel Pink
  • Pathos- The picture of the big city creates excitement in the user.
